Welcome back! It’s time to get back into the school spirit

A very full summer and Jo Boaler is coming to Napa!

It’s hard to believe how fast this summer has flown by! I hope your vacation and time away were great. This summer was a very busy time for us at NapaLearns:

First, we’ve been getting ready to host internationally acclaimed scholar, Dr. Jo Boaler, who will be launching her new book, “Limitless Mind” in Napa. Together with Napa Valley College and Napa Bookmine, we are hosting Dr. Boaler for a talk, book signing, and wine reception on Friday, September 6th, from 4:30pm-7:00pm.

Secondly, we launched the NEXT — Napa Educator Externships — program with our partner Napa County Office of Education. More than 55 teachers and 25 healthcare, hospitality, and wine businesses participated. In phase one, which took place in June, participating teachers spent three days in intensive job shadowing experiences to learn about the careers available in Napa Valley and the skills required for success. Phase two of the program is happening now: Teachers are collaborating with their business partners on ways to integrate real world projects and activities into their classroom lessons.

We received many, many positive comments; here are just two reactions:
“Thank you for giving us this experience. We learned so much and felt we were given access to a world that we would never have been able to navigate otherwise. I’m so excited to share my own experience with my students who are interested in this profession — you can be involved with healthcare at so many different levels, and there are so many different entry points to find out if it is right for you.” Keenan Hale, high school teacher

“We love being able to invest in the next generation of hospitality leaders. By helping educators learn about our industry, we are able to provide meaningful information that instills passion in children of all ages. It is well worth the time and effort to ensure educators understand the intricacies of our industry, while also learning about the daily challenges they face in the classroom.” Rayen Vargas, Silverado Resort and Spa

As I look forward to the school year ahead, I am excited by our work in engaging community partners, school districts, and colleges that prepare our students for their future careers. This generation of students is looking for meaningful career opportunities and the education that gets them there. Our programs are geared to help them achieve these goals.

I would love to talk with you in more detail about our plans and get you involved. Please feel free to respond to this email or give me a call.
